Success! Huzzah!!

Thank you for choosing to master your project with me! I will be in touch shortly. If you have any questions in the meantime you can always get in touch with me via email to ian@flotownmastering.com. If this is our first time working together, here’s what you can expect to happen next:

1. I do my very best to get you an initial master within 5 to 10 business days – sometimes sooner! If I anticipate a longer lead time I’ll reach out to you soon to let you know. When the initial master is ready I’ll send you an email with “Master Refs” in the subject, with a link for you to review your master(s) via a secure, hi-res, lossless streaming page.

2. You can then take as little or as much time as you like to review the master(s). If there are any changes you’d like to make you can just respond to the email, describing them to me. You can also leave timestamped comments on the streaming page if you prefer, or both!

3. Once I have all your revision comments I’ll prepare an updated version and let you know when the new files are ready, accessible via the same link. Often, I can get revisions done in a little as 1 to 3 business days, but as before, if I anticipate it will take longer I will let you know. I include two (2) revisions in the base cost, but am always happy to do more to make sure you’re happy with the results. I may bill additional revisions at an hourly rate depending on their nature.

4. Once you have signed off on your masters, I will prepare your “production” files – the files you will submit to streaming sites, vinyl cutting engineers, CD manufacturing, etc. This involves a detailed QC – quality control – listen to all your songs in their entirety. At this point it is common to identify, and often remove, little clicks, pops, thumps, ticks, and other small defects. This is a time consuming process, and a single song can sometimes take upwards of an hour, with a full album commonly requiring a day or more of work. Please bear with me as make sure your music files are as pristine as they can be! I may even reach out at this point to discuss whether certain noises are intentional and should be left in or if you want them removed. I will also document all identified noises, and whether or not I was able to correct them, in a detailed “QC Log” which I will provide to you. If you are dissatisfied with anything at this stage, I can always add the noises back in! Just reach out and let me know.

5. Once all your production files and accompanying documentation are ready, you will receive another email from me with “Production Masters” in the subject, and a new link where you can pay for and download the files for your project.
